Obituary of Edward Francis Turner

Edward Francis Turner, 55, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on October 12th in Dallas after a brave battle with a rare cancer.

A celebration of Edward’s life was held at an Open House at home, where family and friends gathered to remember him and eat turkey sandwiches, as he requested. A military ceremony will be held in January at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.

Ed, as he was known to all, was born in Philadelphia, PA to Edward and Lucille Turner on October 26th, 1963. He attended Cardinal Gibbons high school in Ft. Lauderdale and graduated in 1981. He attended the University of Florida, then enlisted in the US Army in 1987, spending time in the Gulf War, and earning a Computer Science degree from the University of Maryland in 1993. He retired in 1996 as a Sergeant First Class, and launched a new career in IT, working for Sun Microsystems, Cingular Wireless, and AT&T. He was with AT&T for 13 years. Throughout his long career he received numerous awards and honors for his excellent contributions and leadership.

Ed relished the years he spent mentoring young men in his son, Ryan’s, Boy Scout Troop 143 when they lived in Georgia. He also enjoyed fast cars, boats, and motorcycles, and won recognition restoring vintage Enduro motorcyles.

Ed is survived by his wife of 32 years, Miriam (Mimi Glessner), beloved children Erin Turner and Catherine Turner of Dallas, and Ryan of Brooklyn, New York. His siblings and nieces and nephews include Lucy Turner of Tallahassee, Patricia Doversberger and nephew Matthew Glinski of Oak Point, Tx., Margaret Turner of Ft. Lauderdale, Colleen Litwinowicz and nephews Vincent, Gabriel and Ben and niece Carmela of Ashburn, VA, and John Turner of Ft. Lauderdale. He is preceded in death by his parents Edward and Lucille Turner. 

Memorial donations may be made to the school and ministry his wife and daughters are affiliated with, Trinity Preparatory Academy at 129 Pecan St. Keller, Tx. 76248. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all those who have supported them through their prayers and kind words during this difficult time.
