Celebration of Life
Obituary of Wayne Earl Houston
Wayne Earl Houston, passed away to his eternal adventure on June 17, 2019. He was born on August 26, 1938 in Dallas Texas to his beloved mother, Lucille Storey Stipp. Wayne was a lifelong resident of Dallas but proudly shared that he got his “start,” in Tin Cup, Colorado, the state that would remain dear to him all of his days. Wayne is preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife and best friend, Linda by just four months, his mother, many relatives and close friends. He attended North Dallas High School where he went on a first date with the flirtatious and popular Linda before parting ways. They met again while attending North Texas State University where Wayne pursued an Art Degree (and Linda) which led to a career in Graphic Design and a marriage lasting 58 years. Wayne wore many hats throughout his life. He was a highly creative visionary, innovator and entrepreneur, successfully running an advertising agency, Houston/Ritz & Associates, but Wayne was so much more. He was known to be an oxymoron: “a conservative/hippy” and lovingly referred to as “Diamond Jim.” He was a good son, friend, artist, thespian, athlete and competitor, lover of nature, film and especially music, carpenter/architectural enthusiast, collector, tinkerer, lover of buying in bulk. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who instilled the attributes of pursuing big dreams and passions with dedication and grit. Wayne is survived by daughters Shannon Houston, Kirsten Josephs, son Blake Houston, son in law Charles Josephs, and daughter in law Courtney Houston. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Hunter, Griffin, Bailey, Jeb, Riley, Carson, Delaney, Blake and John, cousins and cherished lifelong friends. The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers, Yolanda O’Campo, Jane Mwangi, Eva Rios, Nelia Rainey, Monte Aglium and the staff at Appletree Assisted Living who loved and cared for both Wayne and Linda. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 29th, 11:00 a.m. at Faith Presbyterian Hospice Chapel, 12477 Merit Drive, Dallas, Texas 75251.
