Obituary of Orville Eugene Wheeler

Orville Eugene Wheeler (Gene) gained his entrance to heaven on September 15, 2022. Buddy, as his loved ones knew him, lived quite an impressive life! From serving our country by flying blimps, marrying the love of his life, raising his darling daughter, designing two parts of the Saturn V rocket, and working on the F-111 and giant steam shovels. From being Dean of Engineering at the University of Memphis, and then teaching, to finally becoming a grand buddy and then a great grand buddy. Buddy’s kind heart and (sometimes warped) sense of humor were felt by all who encountered him. He has left a lasting impression on many and will be missed by his daughter, Lynnette, son-in-law, Rick, granddaughter, grandchildren, and extended family. We all take peace in knowing that buddy is now truly, “fat, dumb, and happy!” (his standard answer to anyone who asked how he was).
