I moved in the middle of my seven-grade year from a small Virginia town to another small Virginia town. Though Culpeper was only an hour away, it felt like a foreign country. And I was initially treated as most foreigners. James was my first and stalwart friend through high school, after which we lost touch. In 2017, we gathered for our 40th reunion. We picked up our friendship where it left off. His passing reminds me of the words of Ian MacLaran, “Be kind. Everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.” Rest now, my friend. The battle’s over.

James trained me at Ameriprise in 1992. He had such a positive impact on my life. I was shocked and saddened to hear of his death and I'm so sorry I missed his memorial service.
