She then attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas where she graduated in May of 1949 receiving a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics degree with a major in Applied Arts and two semesters in Architecture.
Geane married Kenneth R. King on July 23,1949. They made their home in Odessa, Texas where Kenneth and his dad had a construction company. Geane and Kenneth were active members of First Baptist Church in Odessa, Texas where Geane sang in the adult choir and worked with children’s choirs. In 1963, after her four children were older, Geane began substitute teaching. After substituting for 5 years, she began teaching full time as a sixth-grade teacher in Odessa.
In 1973, the family moved to Austin, Texas. While in Austin, Geane and Kenneth attended Hyde Park Baptist Church, and Geane continued her career as an educator with Del Valle ISD until she retired in 1991. She loved playing bridge, flower arranging, home décor, and anything related to arts and crafts. She also enjoyed studying and researching her family’s genealogy. After retiring, Geane and Kenneth enjoyed travelling throughout the lower forty-eight United States and Mexico in their RV, resulting in many new life-long friendships.
Following the death of Kenneth in 2006, Geane remained in Austin for (2) more years before moving to Fort Worth in 2008 to be closer to family. Over the next (13) years, she enjoyed living at the Brookdale Independent Living Community and The Ridglea Assisted Living facilities in Fort Worth.
