Dan Darwin Burnette Dan went to be with the Lord on May 4, 2021, at the age of 78. He was born June 29, 1942, in Waco, Texas to OB and Thelma Burnette. He graduated from Connally High School in 1959 and went to Baylor University that summer where he went on to graduate with a BBA major in accounting in 1964. He met the love of his life, Ruth, and they went on to get married in 1965 at the First Baptist Church in Waco. Dan worked as an accountant with Frito Lay before he was drafted into the army. He was stationed in the 4th US Army at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio for two years before he was honorably discharged. After he left the army, Dan went to work for Collins Radio in Richardson which became Rockwell International. There he became a senior staff accountant. Dan studied at East Texas State in Commerce and received his Master’s degree with high honors in 1980. After 29 years of dedication and loyalty to Rockwell, he took early retirement in 1997. Dan loved to plant flowers in his yard. He took his family camping in Colorado every summer when the kids were little, going fishing, hiking, backpacking, and enjoying the cool Colorado summers. Dan accepted Christ into his life at 13 years and has been a member of The Heights Baptist Church since 1983. Dan and Ruth raised three children, daughter Melissa and sons, Lance and Jeff. In 1998, Dan was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor which was removed through surgery. This left him with many challenges and obstacles over the years with his health. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, OB and Thelma Burnette, wife, Ruth, and daughter, Melissa.
