Obituary of Joyce Dixon
Joyce Marion Dixon was born March 30th 1933 in Saginaw, Michigan to the parents of Dor K. and Beulah L. Spear. She passed away on January 20th 2019, at the age of 85 years old.
Joyce was a resident of Alva, Oklahoma for almost 60 years. She attended Northwestern University in Alva where she graduated with a Master’s Degree in Education, and a Bachelors in Library Science.
While living in Alva, she taught high school English in Cleo Springs and at Alva High School. She was an avid bridge player, involved in numerous organizations, and heavily involved in the Alva community. She was Chapter President of PEO, President of Nescatunga, member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Descendants of the Mayflower; also an active member of Alva Methodist Church, the UMW, and the Doolittle Camping Group.
Joyce was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who lived life to the fullest. She was a world traveler who was always interested in learning about the historical significance of every place she visited. Joyce loved to share her passion for traveling with her daughter and granddaughter on special girls’ trips around the globe.
Joyce is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Scott Higbee of Dallas; and a granddaughter, Cori Madison DeLay and her husband, Dallas and great grandchildren Devin and Dylan, also of Dallas; siblin, Gary, Bob, and David Spear. And countless other friends and family.
Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband; Ernest, daughter; Laura Lee and sister Doris Miller.
Services will be held at a later date in Guymon, Oklahoma.
