Obituary of Laverne Darlene Black

Please share a memory of Laverne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

LaVerne Darlene Black, 87, of BayView, TX, passed away on November 17, 2019 in Dallas, TX.

Funeral service will be held at Merit Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, November 22, 2019 at 1 pm with Reverend Randolph Chappell of Brookdale Hospice officiating.

LaVerne will be buried at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, TX.

LaVerne was born in Dallas, TX to Hal & Faye Lovingfoss on May 6, 1932.  She went to high school at Webster High School.  She went onto Southwest Texas State University, majoring in music.  She worked as a Clerk for the US Post Office in Bacliff, TX until she retired in 1990.

LaVerne loved music and singing.  She started performing at a young age and, in her adult life, enjoyed singing in the choir and performing solos and duets.

She was also an active member of the Bayshore Friends Church.

LaVerne is survived by her Husband, John (Sonny) Black of BayView, TX.  Children: Tana Thompson, Damon Black and son in law Greg Thompson.  Grandchildren: Taylor Thompson and Hunter Thompson.  She is preceded in death by her mother Faye Lovingfoss, father Harold C. Lovingfoss and brothers Warren Lovingfoss and Harold C. Lovingfoss jr.

LaVerne always lived in a place where there was no room for the word “old” because her heart was forever young.  Her contagious and playful humor touched all who knew her because, through her eyes, the world was one of innocence and magic.  She made us feel like a child again and because of her legacy, we will still listen expectantly on Christmas Eve to hear the reindeer hooves dancing on top of the roof or hide behind a tree with excitement to

catch a glimpse of the Easter Bunny’s tail.  We will honor your life by passing down those same traditions to our children and grandchildren and are grateful that you were a part of our lives.
