My Life

I was born in Melchor Ocampo, Mexico to Maria De Jesus Corona Tovar and Rodolfo Arce Gomez on January 9, 1964.

In grade school, I met my best friend, Felipe Dominguez. We’ve been “compadres” ever since and his family has become my family.  I love that man.  

When I came to the United States on November 22, 1982, I reunited with my brother Calixto.  He had been in the U.S. for three years and I would not have been able to integrate without his help.  He helped me with the English language and to learn to navigate high school.  I had so much fun reuniting with my brother – I had missed him so much.  We worked together in my father’s part-time business and loved to spend our money buying clothes at Sanger Harris!

I graduated from W.H. Adamson High School in 1984 where I met another best friend, Luis Garcia (aka: Luisito).  I had so much fun during high school.  I felt like I was experiencing the TV show “Happy Days.”

I attended El Centro College and joined the Marine Corps in 1985.  Boot Camp in San Diego was so much fun for me.  I had a great time.  I attended Mechanic School and Heavy Vehicle Recovery School in North Carolina.  I left the reserves in 1991 with an honorable discharge.

I began my 29 year DART career in 1989 as a bus operator. In 1996, I was excited to become part of the startup team of train operators in the newly formed DART Light Rail System.  After advancing to supervisor, I remained with the Light Rail until 2018.

I met my beautiful wife, Robyn, while working at the DART Light Rail Parker Road Station in 2008.  I knew when I saw her she was something special.  I greeted her many mornings as she caught the train and I finally asked her out.  To my great surprise, she said yes!  I was very happy.  We had a wonderful time getting to know each other and we married on June 4, 2011.  That was one of the happiest days of my life.  

My children have brought me some of the most joyful times of my life.  Experiencing fatherhood with my first born, Julie, was amazing.  I remember reading the Bible to her, playing with her, and just being silly again.  What joy!  Jessica and Diego brought me that same joy.  To my children:  I hope you all know how very much you are loved and cherished.  I’m proud of the young adults you have all become!  

I experienced the delight of becoming a grandfather!  Mina Victoria Scott was born on October 9, 2017.  Mina is the light of my life.  I couldn’t love her more.

Spending time with my family and friends is the most important thing to me.  I pray each one of them knows how much I love and care for them.

My words of advice:  Stay close to the ones you love and don’t waste time.  Forgive and put the past in the past, or you will miss the love and beauty of today.  

I have enjoyed my life here.  I have great peace knowing that when you read this, I will be face to face with Jesus.  I can only imagine!

Mi Vida

Nací en Melchor Ocampo, estado de México, a Maria de Jesús Corona Tovar y Rodolfo Arce Gomez el 9 de enero de 1964.

En la primaria, conocí a mi mejor amigo, Felipe Domínguez. Hemos sido “compadres” desde ese tiempo y su familia ha llegado a ser mi familia. Quiero mucho a ese hombre.

Cuando vine a los Estados Unidos el 22 de Noviembre de 1982, me reuní con mi hermano Calixto. EL ya había estado en los EE, UU tres años antes y no hubiera podido integrarme sin su ayuda. Me ayudo con el idioma de inglés y poder navegar en la preparatoria. Me divertí bastante al reunirme de nuevo con mi hermano—lo extrañe bastante. Trabajamos juntos en el pequeño negocio de mi padre y nos encantaba gastar nuestro dinero para comprar ropa de la tienda Sanger Harris.

Me gradué de la preparatoria W.H. Adamson en 1984 donde conocí a otro mejor amigo, Luis García (Luisito). Me divertí mucho durante los años de la prepa. Sentí que estaba experimentando el show de televisión, “Días Felices.”

Asistí al Colegio El Centro y me enliste en el Cuerpo de Marines en 1985. El campamento de entrenamiento en San Diego fue de mucha diversión para mí. Me encanto bastante. Asistí la Escuela de Mecánica y la Escuela de Recuperación de Vehículos Pesados en el Norte de Carolina. Salí de las Reservas en 1991 con alta de honor.

Empecé mi carrera de 29 años con DART en 1989 como un operador de autobuses. En 1996, estuve muy emocionado de llegar a ser parte del equipo de inicio de operadores de trenes en el nuevo sistema formado de Rieles de Luces de DART. Después de avanzar a supervisor, permanecí con el Riel de Luces hasta el 2018.

Conocí a mi hermosa esposa, Robyn, trabajando en la estación de la Calle Parker de los Rieles de Luces DART en 2008. Sabía muy bien cuando la vi que ella era alguien especial. La saludaba muchas veces por las mañanas así como subía al tren y finalmente le pedí salir conmigo. A mi gran sorpresa, ella dijo sí. Estaba muy feliz. Tuvimos un tiempo maravilloso conociéndonos y fuimos casados el 4 de Junio de 2011. Ese fue uno de los más felices días de mi vida.

Mis hijos me han traído unas de las más felices experiencias de mi vida. Llegar a ser padre con mi primera hija, Julie, fue maravilloso. Me acuerdo leerle la Biblia, jugar con ella, y nomas ser como niño con ella. ¡Que gozo! Jessica y Diego me han traído ese mismo gozo. A mis hijos: Espero que sepan que tanto son amados y queridos. ¡Estoy orgulloso de los jóvenes adultos que han llegado a ser!  

¡Experimente el deleite de llegar a ser un abuelito! Mina Victoria Scott nació el 9 de Octubre del 2017. Mina es la luz de mi vida. No la podría amar más.

Pasando tiempo con mi familia y mis amigos es lo más importante para mí. Mi oración es que cada uno de ellos sepa cuanto los quiero y los amo.

Mis palabras de consejo: Permanezcan cerca de los que aman y no desperdicien tiempo. Perdonen y dejen el pasado en el pasado, o se perderán el amor y la hermosura de hoy.

Me he gozado de esta vida. Tengo gran paz sabiendo que cuando lean esto, estaré de cara a cara con Jesús. ¡Solamente me lo puedo imaginar!
