Obituary of Dr. Dee Hart Norton
Dee Hart Norton, Jr., M.D., FACOG peacefully passed away on October 14, 2019 at the age of 84. He was born in Terrell, Texas on February 12, 1935, to Francis Marie Flatt and Dee Hart Norton. He graduated from Highland Park High School in 1953 and earned a B.S. from Southern Methodist University in 1955.
Dr. Norton received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 1959. After completing a Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor University Medical Center he served as a Captain in the United States Air Force from 1963-1965. He practiced medicine for over 30 years. He dearly loved his patients and followed and encouraged the lives and accomplishments of many of the children he delivered. He became a Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and was a member of the Southwestern Gynecological Assembly.
His hobbies included cooking, reading, travel, quail hunting and bass fishing. He was a man who walked with his Lord and believed in living and leading by example. He was a member of the Elliott Class at Highland Park Presbyterian Church, Phi Delta Theta fraternity, Highland Park High School Alumni Association and SMU Alumni Association.
He married his high school sweetheart Jo Ann Holt in 1955. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, sister Paula Hester, children Stephen Norton, Michael Norton and his wife Karen, and Cynthia Norton McAndrew and her husband Jim. Dee cherished and nurtured his grandchildren who brought him great joy: Christina Norton Welty and her husband Jake, Kathryn Norton, Caroline Norton, Michael McAndrew and his wife Alex, and Stephanie McAndrew. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at Highland Park Presbyterian Church in the sanctuary on October 25, 2019, at 3:30 p.m., Dr. Nelson Bell officiating, with a reception immediately following in the church parlor. Valet parking will be provided.
The family extends their gracious and loving thanks to his very special caregiver Eugenia Kwarteng and to the long-term care nursing staff at Presbyterian Village North.
