Obituary of Daniel Marston Krausse

Daniel Marston Krausse, passed away peacefully surround by family early Saturday morning on June 8th, 2019 during his 93rd year. Dan was born on the 22nd of November 1925, in Houston, son of the late Louis Marston Krausse and Helen Sholes Green. After graduating from Schreiner Military Institute in Kerrville, Texas he entered the University of Texas at Austin. Dan applied to the Naval ROTC in 1943 on the way to UT. Being part of the Naval ROTC allowed him to graduate in 3 years, attending year-round, with a B.S. in Naval Science. He was the Naval ROTC Battalion Commander when commissioned in 1945 and served as Turret Officer on the light cruiser USS Wilkes-Barre. He proudly served his country in the Pacific theatre during the last 6 months of World War II. After being discharged, he continued his education and received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering in 1947 from the University of Texas. While at UT, he joined the Delta Tau Delta fraternity, served as President of the Silver Spurs, & played tuba in the Longhorn Marching Band. He remained a loyal and active alumnus, serving as President of the Texas Exes (1970), Chairman of the University Development Board (1977), and Chairman of the Centennial Endowment Committee (1983). He served on the Advisory Council of the Engineering Foundation of UT Austin (1957-1960), and was named Distinguished Engineering Graduate (1962) and Distinguished Alumnus from the University of Texas (1980). Dan was also a graduate of Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Program (1960). Dan was named one of Five Outstanding Young Men in Texas (1958) and was a respected veteran of the oil & gas industry, having excelled in nearly every stage of corporate responsibility and executive capacity. He was founder, President and CEO of Earth Resources Company and The Krausse Company, worked for Champlin Petroleum Company (Chairman), Dresser Industries (Group VP and Director), Cosden Petroleum Company (Senior Vice-President), and Sinclair Refining Company (Research & Development Dept as assistant to the Director). He served on many corporate Boards, as Director of Stroud Energy, First National Bank, Fort Worth, National Bank of Commerce, Core Laboratories, Inc., Gulf Resources and Chemical Corp., Roy M. Huffington, Inc., Baker Hughes Inc., Plains Resources, Chief Executive Officer of Spring Mills Industries Inc. of Fort Mill, SC, and North Texas Chapter, National Association of Corporate Directors ("NACD"). He served as Trustee of the American Management Association, as Chairman, Western Division Board of Governors, American Mining Congress. A former registered professional engineer, Dan held two US patents and corresponding foreign patents on chemical processes, licensed to 14 companies in six countries. He was active at The Episcopal Church of Good Shepherd as a lay reader and Junior Warden, as well serving as an Advisory Trustee of The Episcopal Church and The Diocese of Dallas.  A loving husband and adoring father to his seven children, he was an avid tennis player, enjoyed hunting, entertaining, traveling around the world, looking for specimen sea shells on remote islands in the Bahamas with his wife Billie, and time spent in Colorado skiing and enjoying summers in Lake City and Creede.  Dan had a keen sense of humor and lived life to its fullest. His legacy lives on through his family and his beloved University of Texas. He will be missed by all who knew him and by all whose lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Barbara Jayne Clayton, sister Jane Baldwin (Joy) Graham and brothers-in-law, Harry Graham and Leon Brinkley. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Billie Ball Krausse, her sister Winnie Brinkley, his 7 children, 3 from Barbara: David Gearing Krausse & former wife Jean O’Brien Krausse, Susan Arnoldy Paisley & husband Doug Paisley, Carolyn Russell Dybwad & husband Per Dybwad, his grandchildren Jason Arnoldy & wife Lindley Arnoldy , Scott Arnoldy & wife Katie Arnoldy, Daniel Arnoldy, Maggie Favre-Bulle, Guillaume Favre-Bulle & wife Joss Favre-Bulle, Camille Favre-Bulle, Katherine Krausse and Matthew Krausse. Billie’s 4 children Jennifer Inge, Peyton Inge & wife Jana, Bob Inge & wife Linda & Anderson Inge, Billie’s grandchildren, HP Inge, Travis Inge & wife Ashley, Christie Inge, Tabitha Inge, Halie Lockwood & husband Chet, Summer Inge, and Katie Inge, Paul Inge & wife Jill,  Shannon Hassey & husband Phil, Tim Inge & wife Heather, along with 12 great grandchildren & many nieces & nephews, and their families.

 

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 o’clock on Thursday, the 8th of August at The Church of the Good Shepherd, 11122 Midway Rd., Dallas, Texas.  Prior to the service, the family will have gathered for a private interment at the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery.
