Obituary of Evelyn Havens

Obituary for

Evelyn Marie Collier Havens

Evelyn Marie Collier Havens, age, 92 1/2, passed away peacefully, on May 23, 2019 in Wylie, Texas.

Evelyn is survived by her 3 children, Ron (Nancy) Havens, Linda Felder, and Larry Bob Havens, her 9 grandchildren, Carrie (Bart) Tinsley, Ronnie (Nikki) Havens, Melanie (Josh) Bach, Andrea (Steve) Dykes, Kristin Nettles, Brittany Currin, Lindsey (Ian) Feuer, Taylor (Courtney) Havens, and Garrett (Abbey) Havens.  She is also survived by 24 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Havens, her sisters, Mildred Bullock, and Audrey Collier, and many other dear family and friends.

Evelyn was born in Carlisle, Texas on September 23, 1926, to Ethel May and Jasper Fay Collier.  She attended Lubbock schools and graduated from Lubbock High School.  She met Frank after he returned from serving in World War II, while she was working at the phone company.  They eloped to Clovis, New Mexico during their lunch break on August 27, 1946.  They returned home and did not tell their news to others for two weeks, due to her mother's illness and lack of housing in Lubbock.  In her almost 64  years of marriage, she was a devoted wife and mother.  She loved cooking for, taking care of, and enjoying her children, nieces and nephews, and her children's friends.  Her children and grandchildren have wonderful memories of their adventures with "Ninny."  She could always make their day brighter, and get them to smile.

Evelyn and Frank built their marriage on their faith in and love of God.  They were faithful members of Churches of Christ in Lubbock and Plano.  She was known for her fun, loving personality, her loving care for others, and her outstanding cooking and baking skills.  She was especially known for her delicious pies.  Her friends and family will always remember Evelyn as a fun, friendly, loving Christian woman.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Founder's Plaza for the love and care they gave to Evelyn during her years she lived there.  They would also like to thank the workers from Pathways Hospice for their tender care in the last few weeks.

A celebration of Life is scheduled for Monday, June 3, 2019 at Greenville Oaks Church of Christ.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, with the service at 11:00 AM.  Burial will be at DFW National Cemetery at 2:30 PM.
