Obituary of Bonnie Case
Please share a memory of Bonnie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bonnie Case, 74, died on August 23, 2023. She was born May 3, 1949, in Springfield, Kentucky. She received her undergraduate degree in library science from George Peabody College (merged into Vanderbilt University) and her Masters in Library Science from North Texas University. Bonnie was a librarian at the Highland Park Library for 42 years, starting in 1974, and became its director in 1980. During Bonnie's tenure at the library, she led it through significant changes in the field of librarianship, including the rise of the internet, automation, and digital resources, was named Library Director of the Year by the North East Library System in 2005 and 2009, and was a key contributor to the award-winning book The Homes of the Park Cities, Dallas: Great American Suburbs by Virginia Savage McAlester, Willis Cecil Winters, and Prudence Mackintosh. Bonnie displayed unwavering dedication during the fundraising and execution of the library's complete 2008 renovation. The renovated Library was featured in Library Journal, a publication of the American Library Association, in its December 2008 architectural issue. When Bonnie became the director of the library, her goal was to make it a place where the members of the community wanted to come. As a result, when patrons entered the library, they were greeted with a sense of warmth, comfort, and the magic of stories waiting on the shelves. During the four decades of serving her community, Bonnie made a difference in many people's lives.
Bonnie was married to her husband Tom for fifty-one wonderful years. They met on her third day of college in 1967 and married in 1972. Bonnie was gracious and charming, loved reading, learning, the symphony, art museums, her cats, and traveling, especially to Europe, where she and Tom vacationed annually. She is survived by her cat Tom, her husband Tom, her brother Hite Nally (Shelley), her nephews Dustin and Brent (Lauren) Nally, and her niece Renae Nally. Bonnie was pre-deceased by her parents Mary Jane and Romuald Nally and her sister Jane Cooper Nally.
Bonnie's family will be forever indebted to Jane Moiko for the unstinting love and care she provided to Bonnie for the last 18 months of Bonnie's life.
A Funeral Mass will be held for Bonnie on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 8017 Preston Road, Dallas, Texas 75225.
