Herbert (Herb & Herbie) William Dodson, Jr., celebrated his 86th birthday on Valentine's Day, Feb 14th, 2023, and then departed this life on February 19, 2023. Herb, born in Amarillo, Texas in 1937 was the eldest son of Herbert W. Dodson, Sr. and Eva Jane Maxey. As his birth date promised, Herb was full of love for his close-knit family, his lifelong friends and all life had to offer, especially sports. Known as “Duck” while playing basketball at Amarillo High School, he played his way to a full-time basketball scholarship at the University of Texas at Austin in 1955. Herb pledged Beta Theta Pi Fraternity and graduated with a degree in Business Administration. Herb could stop a crowd with his moves across a dance floor.
After college graduation, he moved back to Amarillo, Texas. Herb then began a long and successful career in commercial cleaning equipment sales by joining his father's business, Dodson Chemical Company. Herb's career path eventually led him to Denver, Colorado where he met and married Lynn Snider in 1981. Their enjoyment of dining, dancing, playing tennis and golf made them the perfect match. Herb then had a career move which landed them in Dallas, TX. Throughout the years, Herb & Lynn enjoyed European travel and gatherings with close friends and family. Herb's love of sports never faltered, whether it was pro or collegiate football, basketball or golf. He transferred his love of basketball to golf and played every course that challenged him. Herb was a faithful member of Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church. His gentle, kind steady ways along with his enduring patience and love will be deeply missed.
Herb is survived by Lynn, his wife of 41 years; Children: Denise Dodson Morris and Jim W. Cooper of Georgetown, Texas, Herbert W.
