Obituary of Suzanne Renee Rubin

Please share a memory of Suzanne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Suzanne Renee Pearce Rubin departed this earth after a long fight with cancer on February 8, 2023, and is now with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Susie was born on December 3, 1960, in Shreveport, LA, to William P. “Dub” Pearce, Jr. and Nena Marye Pearce. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, attended Arthur Circle Elementary, and graduated from Captain Shreve High School in 1978. From Shreveport, she proudly became an LSU Tiger, pledged Pi Phi, and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance in 1982 (Geaux Tigers). Most importantly, Susie’s strong faith in Jesus was evident through the way she lived. She had a servant’s heart, loved compassionately, forgave quickly and exuded joy. She encouraged her family and friends so well. Susie was strong, loving, hilarious, smart, creative, and the absolute best mom, wife, and sister. She truly was incredible. Everything she did was with grace, passion, and joy. And, she made sure the family never went too long without warm chocolate chip cookies on the counter and the best chocolate pie at the holidays. After college, Susie moved to Dallas and began her career as an accountant with Penrod Drilling Company where she worked for two years. She then had a successful twelve year career with Trammell Crow Company as an accountant and assistant controller within their property management and REIT groups. Susie “retired” from Trammell Crow in 1995 to be home with her first two daughters full time. Eventually Susie returned to work as a part-time teacher’s aide at Zion Lutheran Pre-School, then moving back into various part-time accounting roles. She also was a successful entrepreneur with a constant flow of seamstress projects and her two online businesses, LoveMyGamedayDress and PureRevivalCompany. Susie was incredibly talented, creative, and hardworking. Her world and the future of many lives changed in the Spring of 1983 at a “margarita party” in the Village Apartments in Dallas. She met the man who she would refer to for the next forty years as “her friend Louis”. That party is where a life-long love story began. Over the next three years, Louis and Susie went from being friends, to best friends, to engaged and married on September 6, 1986, to begin their 36-year marriage. They both knew it was God’s plan from the very beginning. Their marriage produced three beautiful daughters: Nena, Kristin, and Peyton. These now grown women are a testimony to Susie’s deep love and dedication to her family. Family was the most important thing to Susie. She loved nothing more than hosting family holiday dinners and vacations at the beach. Her most favorite place in the world was sitting next to Louis on the sugar-white sands of Blue Mountain Beach in Florida and watching her girls build sand castles and play games, particularly kickball and horseshoes. Of course you could absolutely depend on her to be an ardent participant in the games, with a cold drink in her hand and her big beautiful smile. After the sunset, she loved to gather around a big bowl of boiled shrimp to laugh and party on. Susie also loved her dogs like family. The first Christmas Susie and Louis were married, Louis took Susie to pick out the Dalmation she always wanted. The puppy was immediately named Spot, and there have been dogs at the house ever since. Along the way, there has been Buckshot (one of Spot’s puppies), Tex, Dixie, and now Barley, all of whom she made sure were fed from the table and provided plenty of snuggle time. The historical collection of photographs at the Rubin home is a testimony to her cherished life- long friendships. She loved to take pictures and keep them in albums. We cannot name everyone here, but she so kept dear to heart friendships from Arthur Circle, Captain Shreve, LSU (Geaux Tigers), Pi Phi, church friends, Lake Highlands friends, carpool friends, and of course, the Cool Chicks. Susie is preceded in death by her parents, Nena and Dub. She is survived by her beloved husband, and best friend of 40 years, Louis Rubin; daughters Nena Rubin Zorn, Kristin Rubin, and Peyton Rubin; grandchildren Eleanor and Price Zorn; sisters Terry Blackman (Gordon), Virginia Pearce, and Linda Nickerson (A.L.); son-in-law Ricky Zorn (Nena) and son-in-law to be Colin Cunningham (Kristin); Nieces Emily Walthall and Shelley Brownlee; Barley the bird dog; and way too many close friends to name here. The family would like to thank the Gynecology Oncology team at UT Southwestern who helped Susie fight an evil, egregious cancer as long as she could; and Faith Presbyterian Hospice for their care and comfort in her final days. In particular, nurse Nali Chongo, whose strong Christian faith and love provided Susie with a cheerful and blessed departure. Visitation and Memorial Services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 6121 E. Lovers Lane, Dallas, TX, 75214 on February 17th, 2023. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am, with the Funeral Service to begin at 1:00 pm. There will be a brief opportunity for additional fellowship after the service, and then departure to Sparkman Hillcrest Cemetery, 7405 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas, for graveside service and internment. The family requests prayerful consideration for donations to a memorial fund which is established in Susie's name for the Zion Lutheran Pre-School. She spent many years in this ministry providing Christian love and education to the children as a teacher's aide. https://ziondallas.churchcenter.com/giving
