I am deeply saddened to find out Karl has passed. But, I am also extremely thankful to know he loved the Lord and is now in His presence!
It was in the middle 1970's when I met Karl. I was in my middle 20's and was a fairly new and fledgling insurance agent with Lincoln National Life Insurance Company in Dallas, where Karl was also working in management at the time, but not mine unfortunately.
Nevertheless, as it turned out, life insurance sales were not my forte and Karl, being the kind of guy that he was, took it upon himself to hook me up with an opportunity with Southwestern Life Insurance Company as a sales rep in their group health insurance and pension planning department.
Unfortunately, as life so often does to us, our paths diverged and we did not continue our acquaintance as I was placed in the Fort Worth office of Southwestern Life Insurance Company and was required to move to Tarrant County.
Karl's genuine personalness and self-sacrificing care and concern for those around him and his willingness to do whatever he could to help and assist one whenever and however he could was and is incredibly rare in this crazy messed up world where seemingly most people are only concerned about themselves.
The late Oswald Chambers (he of "My Utmost For His Highest") stated that there are two kinds of people in the world, those who, when you are in their presence, make you feel worse, and those who, when you are in their presence, make you feel better. Karl was, most assuredly, in the latter group. He always made you feel better when you were around him.
I am incredibly proud and grateful to have known this man.

I worked at Southwestern Life for 13 years, and Karl would always stop by my desk when he was in the building to see if I needed anything or to update me on any new changes. He made sure all my life insurance was always up to date and would always advise me if I or my family needed anything. When I left SWL, we lost touch.
As most who knew him, I was saddened when I read the news in the paper. For some reason, it was an old paper I found among some other papers and I just now learned of his death. I will miss most, his smile, his kind voice, and his giving attitude to all of those knew him, insured or not.
Prayers and kind wishes to his family.

My one and only insurance agent who sold me my first insurance policy and I learned a lot about insurance from him. He knew all the answers to my questions, even the dumb ones, but was always kind and considerate.
Good memories of such a wonderful person.

it is with the fondest of memories that I remember first meeting Karl - perhaps, the first day he and Laney became my neighbors.
We had an instant connection that he mentioned each time I introduced him to my family or friends. What a personable, kind person he was. I will cherish his memory and wish him a peaceful rest, as I am sure he is having.
With love to Karl, Laney and Allan and family, and to all those who have shared his love,

I went to SMU with Laney but didn’t know Karl at that time. He went to work for my father in the insurance business but later we became friends at Park Cities Presbyterian Church (20 or 30 years ago).
Karl always had a smile on his face. He had the joy of the Lord in his heart and it was always evident to others. He was kind, considerate, compassionate and loving. And, oh, how he loved Laney!
Dick and I had the privilege of taking Karl to Friends Place this past year every week (mostly it was Dick taking him!). He was so grateful and he always made a point to say “and this really means a lot to Laney. It really helps her out.” He was always thinking of her.
Karl loved the Lord. Another thing he used to tell us is how much he loved being in church. He felt like he was at home when he was worshipping the Lord. And now he really is home! What a blessing for Karl. And, as hard as it is, that has to be a comfort for you, Laney and Allan, and your whole family.
We miss Karl already but we have no doubt he is now with the Lord forever; and we thank God for using us and many others to help in a small way when things were really hard for you two.
Love in Christ, Dick and Diane Steele

Karl was an inspiration, a friend and a mentor. My insurance selling days are far, far behind me, but Karl and his memory, and all the love that my Dad (H Dawson Wells Jr) had for him are here to stay. Loved San Francisco and Hawaii trips with Karl, Laney and Allen.

Karl Koenig is the classic example of a good, loyal, and caring friend.
My husband and I have been close friends with Laney and Karl for over 50 years. We met them at a Sunday School class, have travelled with them, and have remained close even after we moved to Estes Park in 2001.
The one best instance of his endearing friendship occurred one evening when Kirk and I had had one of those arguments that led me to run to the Koenigs to get some comfort. I ranted and raved for some time about how bad I had been treated, and both of them were properly attentive. After about 30 or so minutes, Karl stood up , grabbed his car keys, and headed for the door. His words were something to extent of: I just can’t stand it anymore thinking of Kirk over at the house, alone, and hurting. What a sensitive, loving act of friendship that was.
