Obituary of Fred Walker

Please share a memory of Fred to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Fred Walker was born in Burkeville Texas, about 70 miles north of Beaumont. The son of Lyndon and Vera Walker. He had one older brother LD Walker, two sisters and two brothers younger than him. Jamaida, Jenoma, Bob, and Bill. He grew up in East Texas and went to Anderson Bible College in Indiana. He felt a call to preach in his teenage years and began travelling and doing revival meetings with Devon Helbling. He met and fell in love with Devon’s sister, Eileen, and they were married December 26, 1947. He was the Pastor of several Church of God congregations in Texas and Washington State. He felt moved to missions and he and Eileen began to be involved in Healing Evangelism crusades in Mexico and Central America. He assisted T.L Osbourne in one of the most important Evangelistic crusades in Guatemala’s history in the early 50’s. In the 60’s he became involved with his brother LD in the start up of a wood product business. This later became known as TrePol and was led by his brothers Bill and Bob. He worked with the business in Durango Mexico and Juarez as he also continued his ministry involvement. He was instrumental in getting property for the start of an Assembly of God Bible School that still operates in Durango to this day. He went on to be an associate of TL Osbourne and a pastor of a church in Newhall California. Fred and Eileen had 6 children, Jerry, Beverly, Steve, Dale, Janey, and Tommy. Their legacy of grandchildren and great grandchildren has exceeded 100 descendants. In the early 70’s his life and ministry took a giant step forward. His wife Eileen was miraculously healed at Melodyland Christian Center in Anaheim. He also met Chuck Smith and connected with Calvary Chapel as the Jesus movement began. In 1971, he was invited to come and help with the beginnings of the Jesus movement in El Paso and a newly formed group called Jesus Chapel. He served as a mentor and a support to the young people who were leading the services and were seeing hundreds of youth come to Christ. Kenn Gulliksen came to El Paso in 1972 and planted Jesus Chapel as a church fellowship but very soon asked Fred to take leadership of the work. He became senior Pastor of Jesus chapel from 1973-1991 and saw God raise up a mighty work from just a handful of young people at the beginning to the birthing of 5 different Jesus Chapel’s as well as Jesus Chapel School. He and his wife Eileen continued to minister and serve the Lord in many ways, including leading a Spanish congregation at Jesus Chapel Northeast. As they went into semi-retirement they devoted themselves to prayer for their children and grandchildren and the many ministries and missions that their children serve in and lead. Their legacy of ministry goes on touching thousands of people on a weekly basis through their children and grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by Eileen in 2013 and brought Jesus and His kindness to people everywhere he went up to the day he went to Heaven May 30.
