Beverly Lawrence Mills, 81, of Keller, formerly of Houston, passed away Monday February 7, 2022. She was born April 14, 1940 in Longview and grew up in East Texas, graduating from Marshall High School in 1958. Beverly was a longtime resident of the South Belt area of Houston. In 1969 she and her husband moved to Houston from College Station where she was employed at Texas A&M University. She continued her career at San Jacinto Community College working in the registration and business administration offices of both the South and Central Campuses. Beverly was promoted to the position of Business Director of San Jacinto Community College System, where she retired from in 2005. Beverly was active socially in Sigma Phi Gamma International Sorority, dedicated to those in her community through friendship and service. During her retirement, Beverly and her husband continued to live in Houston until 2017 when they moved to Keller where they could enjoy the company of their daughter and grandchildren. Beverly had a lifelong interest in sports, especially volleyball. She also enjoyed travel to see new places. She combined these two passions of volleyball and travel to see her daughter play volleyball; first in college at California State University, Long Beach and traveled to Japan where they trained for an international competition. Beverly continued her travels to see her daughter compete in volleyball professionally in Europe and beach volleyball in California. She also traveled to Prescott, Arizona, to see her grandson graduate from high school in 2016, and to Dothan, Alabama to see her granddaughter graduate from high school in 2018. Beverly traveled with her husband when he was in the Air Force to various SAC bases, and to College Station where he mustered out of the Air Force. After he retired in Houston, she traveled with him to various Project Management Institute conferences and events throughout the country from Maine to California. Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Marie Lawrence. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert P. Mills; brother Leslie W. Lawrence and sister-in-law, Jhonnie K. Lawrence of Gilmer; son Kevin D. Mills and daughter-in-law Yvonne L. Mills of Dothan, Alabama; daughter Alicia M. Polzin and son-in-law Scott A. Polzin of Colleyville; grandson Duncan M. Mills of Dothan; granddaughter Makennah J. Mills of the University of Florida at Gainesville; and grandson Alec D. Polzin and granddaughter Elle M. Polzin of Colleyville. The family plans to have a private celebration of life to honor Beverly’s memory.
