Obituary of Ann Steffens
Please share a memory of Ann to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ann Steffens was born in 1935 and grew up in the foster care system. Though she had 10 siblings total, she was accompanied through childhood only by her elder sister Betty, whom she was fiercely protective of. Through her life she was able to locate and connect with her siblings, including her brother whom she met for the first time at age 80. Ann married her devoted husband Elmer Steffens, and they adopted their daughter Susan, who gave them two grandchildren, Jason and Heather.
As a young woman, Ann worked at a candy factory, "Putting eyes on the chocolate bunnies, and let me tell ya, a lot of those bunnies made it down the line without an eye". Ann was an active member at the Full Gospel Christian Church in Copiague, where she was known as
"The Church Baker". During her later years her role in the church gave her great purpose and community. Her oldest and dearest friend Marianne Salome saw her through the ups and downs of life. Ann deeply cared for animals, especially her tabby cat Weezer. Her final days were spent in Texas with her granddaughter, where she was looked over and cared for by Eagle Ridge Memory Care facility.
We will miss Ann for her sharp wit, New York attitude and her warm and caring heart. She worried and concerned over all she loved. She was a survivor, a tough cookie.
