Obituary of Norvela Gates

Norvela Gates was born on January 11, 1943 in Greenville, Texas, grew up in Carlsbad, Texas, and died on November 10, 2021, in Forney, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Edith (Witte) Wood, her son, Steven M. Gates, and her sister, Linda. She is survived by her husband of fifty-seven years, Charles (Nick) Gates, brother Gordan Wood and sister, Latrisha Mitchell and brother-in-law Randy Mitchell, and nieces and nephews. Norvela was affiliated with the Southern Baptist church, Northwestern Baptist Church in Midland, Texas. Norvela was a pastor’s wife for thirty years (many stars in her crowns), served the Lord with love all her life. She had a strong faith in the Lord and trusted fully in His Amazing Grace. She was an uplifting person to those people around her. She was not outgoing, but she showed love and concern to everyone. She will be missed by family and friends, the young people she worked with in the church from kindergarten to young adults. Now she is in that group the Bible calls so great a cloud of witnesses. We love you, Novela, and we will see you soon.
