Obituary of Sandra Ann Bachemin Johnson

Sandra Ann Bachemin Johnson, 80, passed away on Thursday night, the 29th of July 2021 in Denton, TX. Sandra was born on the 23rd of April 1941 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Ernest Anthony Bachemin and Gertrude Wesner. Sandra was an active child in both sports and outdoor hobbies and would go fishing with her father for shrimp, crawfish, crabs. She often mended fishing nets and could set and empty traps. We attribute Sandra excellent cooking skills from her father and bravery to try and even invent new recipes. Sandra was an all-around athlete and played on various sports teams in High School including volleyball, basketball, softball, ping pong and kick ball. She was an assistant coach for Volleyball and Softball from 1984 to 1986 at Chalmette Christian Academy. She began bowling in 1964 and competed locally. Throughout her bowling career, Sandra had 7 bowling coaches including Dick Weber (PBA member and Senior PBA member) and Bill Johnson (PBA member and Senior PBA). She had 6 perfect games and 5 Seven hundred series. Sandra and Bill won a 1st place Champions Husband and Wife team in 1964 and 1965. She became a member of the Ladies Professional Bowling Tour in 1997. Sandra met Bill Johnson during a New Orleans tournament in 1964 on a Tuesday. Bill spotted Sandra and used every second not bowling looking at her making her very uncomfortable. Sandra proceeded to get autographs of all the bowlers in the tournament except him. Bill had the manager of the bowling alley introduce them and when he asked why she didn’t get his autograph, she told him she read his bio in the program and noticed he was married and didn’t think his behavior appropriate. He explained he was in the middle of a divorce however it was not final. He convinced her to drop him off at this hotel stating his ride had left the bowling alley. He told her it would only take one date before she would agree to marry him. He asked her out to a movie the next night and left after kissing her on the forehead. The next night (Wednesday), they went to a movie where he infuriated Sandra by staring at her the entire movie. After the movie, he proposed. On Thursday, Sandra accepted. They were married 2 years later and were 4 days shy of celebrating 54 years of marriage. Sandra accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior in 1974 and inspired her daughters to do the same. While attending Assembly of God Tabernacle, Sandra was a teacher in the Missionettes program which was female program focusing on the women of the bible with specific milestones to accomplish. Sandra as well as both Michelle and Kim completed the highest milestone of becoming an Esther after completing the Susana, Tabitha, Anna and Ruth milestones. Sandra later became a Missionettes coordinator. Michelle and Kim followed in her footsteps each becoming teachers in different programs within Missionettes. Michelle taught Prims (5 and 6 year-old girls) and Kim taught Friends (13+ year old girls). This brought Sandra such joy and pride helping young girls know, learn more and develop a relationship with Jesus Christ. Bill introduced Sandra to the world of golf (his favorite sport). Family vacations then consisted of visiting golf courses throughout the country. Our parents would golf 18 to 36 holes a day while Michelle and Kim spent time at the pools and charging lunches to our parents. We would oftentimes also visiting the local bowling alley as it seemed our father had a talent for smelling when they were near. Our most memorial bowling alley was in Colorado and upon driving into the parking we noticed a water slide coming out the side of the bowling alley and back into the building. We immediately pressed our parents why we couldn’t have spent hours from their bowling back-to-back leagues in that bowling alley. would golf with Bill, as golf was Bill’s favorite sport. We went on numerous vacations to Golf Courses whereas Michelle and Kim would swim throughout the day as they played 18 or 36 holes. Sandra worked for the U.S. Army & Air Force at Jackson Barracks in New Orleans for nearly 3 decades. Her work, even though as a civilian, bled into her home life oftentimes using acronyms for her daughters (Standard Operating Procedures SOP’s) and other such fun was introduced into our childhood. Her attention to detail, organizational skills and continual process improvements ensured she was sought after by every leader in the Barracks, and she worked in every department to implement the new processes. Her favorite activity during retirement was spending time with Bill, her children and grandchildren. She was dedicated, tenacious, resourceful, discerning and a warrior for what’s true and right although not always the easiest path. In 1999, Sandra was inducted into the St. Bernard Parish Sports Hall of Fame following Bill who was inducted in 1997. They were the only married couple both inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame for the same sport. Sandra and Bill relocated to the Dallas area after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Sandra is preceded in death by her husband, Albert W. “Bill” Johnson, Jr., Randy Johnson and both her parents and sister Carolee Gann. Sandra is survived by her two daughters Michelle (De La Cruz) and Kimberlee (Chatelain). Grandkids include Andrew M. Johnson, Rebecca Morris, Journi Chatelain Pope, Dane Chatelain, Jasmine De La Cruz and Joshua De La Cruz. Great-grandchildren include Anneliese E. Bobermin, Juliet Rose Bobermin, Liam Pope and Ella Grace Morris. Celebration of Life will be held at Plano Super Bowl, 2521 K Avenue, Plano, TX 75074 on Sunday, August 29, 2021 from 2 pm to 6 pm.
