Obituary of Helen Bechtel

Helen Louise Bechtel - 89, of Corinth, TX, passed away on August 4, 2021 in Corinth, TX. Helen Louise Bechtel was born in Oil City, Pennsylvania to Earl and Pauline Bechtel on September 26, 1931. She went to high school at Oil City High School and graduated in 1949. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 1952 from Oil City School of Nursing, Pennsylvania, PA. Helen worked as a registered nurse, charge nurse and Director of Nursing starting her 48 year career in Oil City, PA and retiring from Southern Hills Medical Center in Nashville, TN. She had the pleasure of serving many celebrities from the Nashville area while serving in her nursing capacities. She received the distinguished Dr. Frist Humanitarian Award in 1991 while working for the HCA Hospital Group for her stellar compassion of nursing to those under her care. Helen and her best friend and companion of many years, Betty Mae Confer, were instrumental in the starting of the Free Methodist Church in Murfreesboro, TN in the mid 1970s. Their ministry to others and their unselfish love and dedication to the church helped it flourish to a larger community of believers of Jesus Christ in the Murfreesboro, TN area. Helen’s legacy of Christ’s love and unselfish nature of serving others will live on through those who knew her and saw how she lived her life. Helen exemplified God’s true meaning of love through her life lived in career and family. Helen cherished family time and quality time spent with those she loved. She was also an avid violinist and baker. Helen Louise Bechtel is survived by her sons, Terry “Trevor” Confer and partner James Fletcher of Corinth, TX, son Roger Confer of Murfreesboro, TN, lifelong friend and companion Lyle E. Confer of Corinth, TX, close family members Josephine “Jo” and Bob McClendon of Loganville, GA, Collin McClendon and wife Katie of Loganville, GA, Melinda Sharpe and husband Chuck of Douglasville, GA, brother Jack Bechtel and wife, Susan of Franklin, TN, grandchildren, Caleb Fletcher of Carrollton, TX, Kayla Confer of Murfreesboro, TN, niece Tracy Fesko and husband Lee Eric of Franklin, TN, Nephew Douglas Bechtel and wife Angelique of Boone, NC, cousins Nancy Thompson and Vern Bechtel and a host of Cawthron and Fletcher family members. She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Earl and Pauline Bechtel, brother Earl Bechtel Jr. and lifelong friend and companion Betty Mae Confer. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice in the name of Helen Louise Bechtel.
