He was my dad. However, I did not really meet him until I was 36 years old. My son, Channing was 12 when he met his grandfather, better known as Pops to us. My dad had a couple of years with my brother, Jeff before Jeff passed at the age of 40. Pops was devastated to lose Jeff. Unfortunately, I could not keep my Pops attention. He was in my life for a few years then just dropped out. I sent cards, texts, emails and tried to call him. My heart is broken that he is gone. I admired him so much. Judy used to say I was just like my Pops. She called us McCluresteins because we would drive across town to save a penny per gallon on gas.
Imagine the shock when my son, Channing was trying to find Pops to tell him he missed him and instead he found the obituary. I’m sad that no one thought enough of me to notify me of his death. Channing is so upset and hurt.
I will always love my Pops. I look like him, I print like him and I have his intellect. My dad told me I reminded him of his sister Jenny. Life’s journey can be hard, but I remain a joyful overcomer. I love you, Pops.

Ben will always be known as Grandpa Ben to us. He was the easiest person to be around, always non-assuming with a big smile that lit up his face. His hugs were the best. He was very much loved by our family. We appreciated all the times he came to visit, when he would fix anything broken around the house without being asked, or hung that picture I meant to put up for years--all the "honey-dos" that we didn't get to when life got busy. He just made life easier. He had so much knowledge and interesting stories to tell. Grandpa Ben usually had gifts in his bag for the kids when he visited and never forgot them on their birthdays and special holidays. We will miss him so much. Life has certainly cheated us of time. We hope he is in a better place and knows how much he meant to us.
