Frank Roderick Hickman, Sr., of Dallas, Texas, passed away on July 26, 2021 in Coppell, Texas.
There will be a private service for the family.
Frank was born at home in Dallas to Edith and Charles (Teado and Charlie) on July 27, 1922. He graduated from high school at Tech High in Dallas in 1940. He had a successful career at GMC Truck Corporation, ultimately retiring as Truck Distributor. He enjoyed being with family and working in his church. He met Margaret Fowler at the end of high school and had a marriage of 70 years until Margaret passed away in 2012. Frank spent the last 13 years of his life at St. Joseph’s Village.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, sister May Delle, brothers Charles Jr. and Walter. Frank is survived by his children, Diane Shoemake and husband Robert of Richmond, Virginia; Frank Roderick Hickman, Jr. (Rod) and wife Ginny of Fort Worth, Texas; and David Hickman and wife Clifta of Coppell, Texas; six grandchildren, Josh Shoemake, Padgett Shoemake, Seth Hickman and wife, Lauren, Anne Claire Hickman Woods and husband Adrian, Nathan Hickman and wife Justine Ahle, and John Hickman; and four great-grandchildren, Ellie Pearl Hickman, Asia Grace Woods, Titus Woods, and Everett James Woods.
Frank loved to play games, travel, and be around people. In fact, it was often said that he never met a stranger and was the ultimate storyteller. He was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather. Frank was proud of his family, his faith, and history, both his own family and historical facts, especially around the presidents. Everyone loved him so dearly, fondly referring to him as Ol’Frankie, Gandad and Daddy. Frank just loved life both leisure and work. As part of both, he proudly attended the Texas state fair for 75 consecutive years and sailed on 31 cruises with Margaret. In order to preserve his own history and memories, Frank created shelves and shelves of scrapbooks of his own family and all of his traveling adventures. How much he’ll be missed…
