George Layton Peveto
Irving, Tx – George Layton Peveto, 74 died Saturday April 6th at the T. Boone Pickens Center for Palliative Care in Dallas, Texas, after a 23 year battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Pamela Rudisill Peveto of Irving, TX; his two sons and their spouses, Brett and Julie Peveto of Chester, NJ, Brad and Joy Peveto of Dallas, TX; and three granddaughters. He is preceded in death by his father Lee Peveto and his mother Juanita (Baxter) Peveto, both of Sulphur, Oklahoma.
George was born March 21, 1945 in Orange, Texas to Lee and Juanita Peveto, and moved to Sulphur, Oklahoma shortly thereafter. After graduating from Sulphur High School in 1963, he went on to Okmulgee Tech, to study diesel mechanics. He moved to Oklahoma City after graduating and took a job with International Harvester Trucks as a diesel mechanic. It was in Oklahoma City where he met his wife Pamela Rudisill, and they were married on August 2, 1969. In 1973, he graduated from Central State University with a BA in Business Administration. Later that same year, they moved to Irving, TX where George would continue to work for International as a regional service manager until his retirement in 2006; after thirty-nine (39) years of employment.
George had a lifelong fascination with all things mechanical, and could often be found in the garage, disassembling, repairing, building and rebuilding all manner of household and automotive equipment. If you didn't find him in his garage, he was often in a neighbor's garage fixing things at their house. George had a generous spirit and was always ready to lend his time and expertise to friends, friends of friends, and friends of his children. A friend to all, George never met a stranger, and will be missed by all those whose lives he touched.
A memorial service will be held in Irving, TX at First United Methodist Church on April 23rd at 1pm. A service will he held in Sulphur, OK, on May 26th at 3pm at the First Methodist Church with interment at Oaklawn cemetary at 5pm.
