I knew and worked with Charles for the years we both started in our journalistic pursuits long ago. We met on the staff of Speaker Ben Barnes working in the media arena and soon became lifelong fast friends. Later when Charles established Media Communications in Austin, I became a member of that outstanding group of media personnel which won Addy Awards and particularly for the “Don’r Mess With Texas” state campaign. Charles was legendary in his own time. There will never be another like him. With great affection, Bess Mitchell, Austin

Charles was an artist with a loyal heart - Lisa and I had him as our guest in Santa Ynez California he was the only person ever to use our pool.
We loved Charles and miss his brilliant mind dearly.
He is now managing the Polo Club in Heaven for Jesus Christ.

Charles Ward was the best and led by inspiration. There are so many of us, like me, who will miss him dearly as he cheers on that great polo match in the sky.

Rest In Peace, dear sweet Charles. Charles was a wonderful friend. I am thankful to have been by his side when he had a six bypass heart operation in 2004. He had a lot of determination and went on to do great things. He will be dearly missed...
My condolences to Jeffrey and the family as well as Charles' extended family of friends.

I am shocked & saddened to learn of this unfortunate news as we worked together at the Las Colinas Polo Club. I respected his corporate marketing sales skills.

Charles was my Interior Design client for his contemporary home in the Westgate highrise, Austin, after divorce. I also designed the neon signs, filled the jukebox with the latest music, did holiday decor.
Went on to do a 2nd location there for his guest & parties, his office at Media Communications and houseboat.
He gave me pictures he took of my work in a leather briefcase with my name engraved on it as a thank you gift.
This past year we talked, texted & exchanged birthday greetings.
XO

I first met Charles at Santa Barbara Polo and racquet club where you would find both of us every Sunday during the summer on the deck at the clubhouse having lunch, watching Polo, catching up with friends, better times were never had. Charles was always so warm, charming and welcoming, and throughout the years followed me on Facebook with many complementary comments on my Facebook page as I shared my adventures and followed his life and career. This is a wonderful man, Charles, who has left his indelible mark on many of us. He will be missed, and Polo will never be quite the same without his presence.

I met Charles in the early days of Media Communications. He put together one fine agency with great people, and that can-do, fun environment came directly from Charles. He was bigger than life - very kind to me, and as a young man in advertising, he was a true inspiration…one of the inspirations that led me to open my own agency. I am sorry we did not stay in better touch, and certainly, truly saddened to hear of his passing. He was one in a million, and he made our industry, and our world better and certainly, more positive and fun. En paz descanses, Charles.

It’s such a sad loss for the entire ultra high net worth luxury marketing world. He was iconic in his stature and approach to branding, sponsorships, relationships and bringing events to the forefront. I always admired his style and grace. May his memory be a blessing.

A true gentleman. I met Charles in 1998 when I moved to Dallas. He was of course dating a gorgeous woman that was my neighbor. I then became neighbors with him. I remember the day he rescued a Great Pyrenees … a long time ago. A true gentleman

I met Charles in Houston in 1993. I had left my work as a medical scientific photographer, was immersed in graduate school and leading groups of graphic artists outsourcing design for large corporations in Houston, Chicago, and London. Charles was expanding his Idea Works business and we hit it off immediately. When he learned of my plan to finish grad school and move to San Diego he took time to regale me with stories of his work with the AC campaign and told ne all about the city. In June 1995, with Charles’ inspiration, my wife and I packed, gathered our meager nest egg, and headed to the La Jolla area. A couple months later, Charles arrived on one of his California jaunts, hosted my wife and I at George’s at the Cove in La Jolla, showed us the La Jolla Cove and Scripts Pier where he did his open water swims each day, and spent the afternoon briefing us misplaced Texans on the So. Cal. Lifestyle. I had never felt so welcome to a city. I have now lived in San Diego for 26 years and made frequent contact with Charles helping each other with business and marketing ideas. And just this past year, Charles had been mentoring my niece in her expanding animal chiropractic practice that included the beautiful polo ponies in Dallas. Charles was always the true definition of a gentlemen’s gentleman and I never tired of his marketing exploits. I was shocked by the news of Charles’s passing until I paused for a moment to consider how Charles would have kept his health issues private to his closest friends because he wound have wanted all of his friends to continue onward living their best possible life. RIP Charles. The angels has a new first class friend and all of us have an angel watching over us on this mortal earth. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Years of working for Media Communications, especially on the "Drive Friendly" and "Texas: Handle with Care" campaigns provided many of the pinnacle points in my career. Never would that have been without the inimitable Charles Ward. He hired me green behind the ears from an RTF major at UT Austin and a bit of experience in broadcast news and radio station assistant management and provided the opportunity to soar. We created award-winning broadcast pieces for "Drive Friendly" and took the campaign, which translated to "Maneje con Amabilidad" and was the only bi-lingual traffic safety program in the nation, with the World Health Organization to Mexico and Venezuela. He installed a mobile telephone in my 1968 GTO (long before cellular and wireless) so we could stay in instant touch. I relished the opportunity to drive his incredible Jensen Interceptor. For me, as for so, so, so many others, his memory is a blessing.
