Obituary of Carolyn Summers

Carolyn Laura Pitts Summers passed away at age 87, on May 27, 2021, in Dallas, Texas. She was born on August 12, 1933, in Jonesboro, Arkansas to Wade Hampton Pitts and Laura Mae Orbison Pitts. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Ernest Leroy Summers, her brother Wade Pitts, sisters Mildred Shipp, and Connie Watson. She is survived by her daughter, LeCarole Moore and husband Tim Moore; two grandchildren, Daniel and Alison Moore, and sister, Margaret Keel. Carolyn attended elementary, junior high, and high schools in Jonesboro, Arkansas, and university at Ouachita Baptist University, Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and Arkansas State University (Bachelor’s in Education) Jonesboro, Arkansas. She married Rev. Leroy Summers and served alongside him in ministry in roles such as administrator, and Sunday School teacher while Leroy held various positions including minister of music, education, and senior adults. She dedicated her life and heart to the congregation and friends in these churches some of which include North Jacksonville Baptist Church, Jacksonville, Florida; Union Avenue Baptist Church, Memphis, Tennessee; First Southern Baptist Church, Phoenix, Arizona; and Park Cities Baptist Church, Dallas, Texas. Her love for teaching was evident as she was an educator into her seventies. It was rewarding to her as she prepared and taught elementary students in the area of reading comprehension. She was a devoted and beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother who is dearly missed. The family expresses its appreciation to her caregivers for their hard work and care for her in recent years. A Memorial Service will be held at a time to be announced soon at Park Cities Baptist Church, Ellis Chapel, 3933 Northwest Parkway, Dallas, TX 75225.
