Please share a memory of Bertha to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bertha Lucille Harkrader, or Lou, as she was known to friends and family, peacefully passed away on April 15th, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born May 23, 1958, in Rockwall, Texas, to Tommie and Altha Ursery, a World War II Air Force veteran and his flamboyant wife who had recently moved from Arkansas to start a new life for their small, close-knit family. As the baby of the family, Lou enjoyed the doting attention she received from her dad. She especially loved the time she spent in the air when she'd join her father on airplane test rides. She was an adventurous tomboy as a child and acquired a few scars and a chipped front tooth as a result, but they didn't slow her down. Lou was a free-spirited young woman whose life interests included everything from art, music, writing, and reading. Her career interests ranged from warehouse work to cosmetology to waitressing, and finally title insurance, a field she worked in for the last 30 years of her life, making countless friends and forming bonds that she continued to nurture until her passing. Above all else, Lou was a giving and wonderful parent. She was mother to three sons: Richard, Michael, and Tony, and stepmother to two daughters: Christie and Michelle. She was a selfless mother who always made sure her children had whatever they needed or wanted even if it meant she did without. No one was more important to her than her children. She was generous with her time and her love. She was a wonderful friend to many, many people, a lot of fun and always down for a joke. Lou's personality is what made people love her and want to be her friend. Not everyone got her sardonic sense of humor but she didn't care and that's what made her so unique. Lou will be greatly missed by her friends and family, but will be cherished forever in the hearts of those whose lives she touched. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Michael Ursery, sister Sonjia Cabrera, niece Karen Mata, and nephew Scott Mata. Lou is survived by sons Richard Harkrader, Michael and Tony Hernandez, daughters Michelle Harmon and Christie Hernandez, daughter-in-law Peggy Harkrader, son-in-law Eric Harmon, sister Sharon Walton and brother-in-law Charles Walton. She is also survived by her grandchildren Keegan Harkrader, Christopher and Justin Gelina, and Elizabeth Nicholson, great-granddaughter Evalyn Gelina, great-grandson Jackson Jennings. Other beloved family members included nieces Anna and Makenna Taylor, Sandi Wheatley, Pam Qualls, Debra McCullar, Bree Burns, Shannon Cooper, Donna Luera, Linda Ovalle, Analisa Munoz (goddaughter also), Cortney and Mia Garner and nephews Stoney and Bentley Taylor, Alex Garner and Charles Walton Jr. and many great-nieces and nephews.
