Obituary of Dorothy "Dottie" Reece

Please share a memory of Dorothy "Dottie" to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dorothy “Dottie” Reece, age 87, passed away peacefully on April 6th, 2021. She was born June 22nd, 1933 in Concord, Texas to OZ and Goldie Fenner. She married her love, Captain James L. Reece, in August of 1957, who preceded her in death in 1964. Dottie devoted her life to their three children. Dottie enjoyed spending time in the kitchen making her favorite dishes and desserts, including the infamous and well-loved “wheel-well pie.” She rarely stayed in one spot: the casino and movie theater were some of her favorite places. She shared her love of sweets and sports (especially the Dallas Cowboys) with her children and grandchildren. For many years, Dottie volunteered at the Baylor Garland hospital as the Treasurer of the Volunteer Auxiliary. It suited her servant heart. She volunteered at the hospital in honor of her mother and sister (Joan Tolbert) as a way to carry on the family legacy. Dottie embodied the sentiment that the essence of life is to serve others and do good. Regardless of the challenges presented to Dottie, her life was a living example of Robert F. Kennedy’s quote, “only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.” Dottie is survived by her three children Sharma, Pete, and Joanie and their spouses Dennis, Debi, and Bob; grandchildren Daniel, Rebekah (and spouse, Colin), James, Faith, Jenna, and Sara (and spouse, Tiffany); and her great-granddaughter Ella. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Maren. Please join us for a celebration of life at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 17th, at Little Bethel Memorial Park in Duncanville, Texas (1803 Cedar Hill Rd). In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
