Obituary of Steven Mark Gates

Steven Gates, 53, of Forney, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 in T. Boone Pickens Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Dallas, Texas. Memorial service will be held at Memorial Chapel on Monday, March 22, 2021 at 3:00 P.M. with Mr. Nick Gates officiating. Steven was born in Odessa, Texas to Charles (Nick) and Norvela Gates on September 25, 1967. He went to high school at Permian High School in Odessa, TX and graduated in 1986. He went on to earn a degree in Sociology from the University of Texas Permian Basin. He was a licensed social worker. Steven was a special education and homebound teacher for Ector County ISD and senior director of workplace education and training at Texas Tech Health Sciences Center. In 2018, Steven left Odessa for North Dallas to pursue a career as a success coach, thought leader and public speaker. Steven focused on helping people to reach their full potential. He always wanted to be a person that added value to another person’s life. Steven was always involved in church ministry and loved to help others. He was a visionary and a true leader of people. Steven is survived by his parents, Nick and Norvela Gates of Forney, TX; his friend of 31 years, Rebecca Mull of Forney, TX and his two dachshunds, Lucy and Lily. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the T. Boone Pickens Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Dallas, Texas. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Sumer, Dr. Hughes, Dr. Vo and their staff at UT Southwestern; the Palliative team at UT Southwestern and the staff at T. Boone Pickens Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Dallas, Texas. A special thank you to all of Steven’s friends and family that have been praying and supporting him the last year and throughout his life.
