Please share a memory of Donald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Donald Eugene Salter, age 74, passed away surrounded by the love of those he held close to his heart on Saturday, March 6, 2021, at his home in Allen, Texas after a courageous battle with cancer.
Don was born on December 27, 1946, in Sikeston, Missouri to Doyle Penzil Cloud Sr. and Laura Elizabeth (Dover) Cloud. After the death of his father Doyle, his mother married John Matney Salter. He was eventually adopted by his stepfather changing his surname to Salter. He graduated from Chickasha High School in Chickasha, Oklahoma in 1965 and in 1969, earned his Bachelor of Mathematics from Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Don became a weather observer in the United States Air Force from 1969-1972 and then went into the Air National Guard until May of 1975, both earning an Honorable Discharge. Don spent 51 happily married years to his wife Shirli Kaye (Moran) Salter prior to her death in 2019. And he just recently retired in January of this year after a successful career in software consulting from his senior management consulting position with Conexus SG.
Don was preceded in death by his wife, Shirli Kaye (Moran) Salter, his parents, Doyle Penzil Cloud SR. and Laura Elizabeth Cloud, 2 sisters: Mary Ann (Salter) Milnes and Susan Elizabeth Salter.
Don is survived by his sister, Annette Jill Benfell, his brother Doyle Penzel Cloud Jr., and his two children Todd Salter and Cara Salter.
Don has made numerous lifelong friends throughout his career and home life.
He loved classic oldies music and enjoyed listening to it on weekends while working on his house. Aside from spending time with family and friends he had a passion for genealogy. Don was a member of the Cloud Family Association where he and many other relatives focused on finding out more about their family heritage and preserving that heritage for years to come. He absolutely loved spending time with his family, including the family cats. But of all his roles in life, he most enjoyed being a father to both Todd and Cara. He loved his children dearly. Don was a dedicated family man and full of generosity, always putting others before himself.
A celebration of life will be held in the upcoming weeks. Please contact the Salter Family for more information. In Lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to The American Cancer Society in his honor.
