David J. Lippert, 63 of Plano, Texas died February 22, 2021. His Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 17, at a time and location to be determined. Born in Nebraska, Dave grew up in Columbus where he attended District 9 Elementary School and graduated from Lakeview High School in 1976. He earned a Construction and Masonry Degree from Northeast College in Norfolk. For many years, Dave worked for his father’s construction company in Columbus before moving to Plano, Texas in 1985. There, he worked various construction jobs before starting his own kitchen and bath remodeling company in 1987 that he owned until his retirement in 2021. Dave employed many people, including close friends and family, where he helped teach them his craft. Those who worked with him knew him for his expertise and patience while teaching the tricks of the trade. Dave met Ann Wurdeman in their freshman year of high school. They married a year after graduating in 1977 and moved into a house they built together in rural Columbus. They enjoyed 43 years of marriage and had three children: Shawna (Corey) Allen of Plano, Texas, Lynsey (Jon) Poynter of Richardson, Texas, and Tyler Lippert of Dallas. He was Papa to six grandchildren: Abigail and Sophia Allen, Conrad, Ridge and Quinn Poynter, and Emery Lippert. Dave’s joy in life was cooking for his family and friends. He mastered smoking meat, making his own barbeque sauce, homemade pizza, and looked forward to having his grandchildren over for Papa’s Pancakes on Saturday mornings. Dave loved everything outdoors including fishing and hunting. He looked forward to the fall when he left for deer camp with his son-in-law and hunting buddies. Dave was known for his humor – his daily goal was to make someone laugh with a joke or boat story which he had many to tell. His motto was, “You play the hand you’re dealt” and he played it well. We are comforted in knowing that he is in his everlasting home in Heaven.
