Obituary of Virginia Lee Headley
Virginia Lea Headley of Iowa City IA, passed away at home, surrounded by her family on March 1st 2019. She was 81 years old.
Virginia is survived by her children, Scott & daughter in law, Julie Hanson, of Granada Hills, CA. and Sue & son in law, Glenn Harrison of McKinney, TX; her Sisters, Jean Mahanna of Iowa City IA. Linda Parsons of West Burlington IA. and brother Dale Spurgeon of Iowa City IA.; four grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her ex husband, Stanley O Hanson, of CA; her brothers Keith Spurgeon of Naples Florida, Thomas Spurgeon of Iowa City IA, Wally Spurgeon of Iowa City Iowa; her parents, Edna Ellen and Walter Mirl Spurgeon of Iowa City IA..
Virginia was born on November 8th 1937 in Iowa City IA. to Walter and Edna Spurgeon, One of 7 children, she attended all 12 years of school in Iowa City and met her husband to be, Stanley O of Cedar Rapids IA. After getting married, the couple moved to California where Stanley joined the Navy. The couple welcomed their son while living in Long Beach, and five years later, a daughter. Virginia’s love, imagination and creativity kept both children entertained through their childhood.Virginia was very involved with the PTA and worked as president on both local and state levels. Virginia was always learning new crafts/trades. She self- taught herself how to do upholstery, took lessons in tole painting, stain glass, ceramics and more. There wasn’t anything she couldn’t do. When her marriage ended, she went into sales in both life insurance and mortgage loans in CA. and NV. She won several sale awards always beating the goals given to her. To know her was to love her.She could win anyone over with her sweet personality.
Virginia was an exceptionally giving person. She never wanted to talk about herself, she wanted to know all about you and listen for anyway she could help.
Virginia passed away peacefully at home with the care of Brookdale Hospice. She will be remembered as a perfect mother, a sweet, giving, “get it done” woman with a zest for life and positivity.
A graveside service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday March 16th at Ridgeview Memorial Cemetery in Allen. Chaplain Randolph Chappell will officiate the ceremony. A celebration of life will follow immediately afterwards at 7805 Chapel View Dr. in McKinney. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Virginia’s life.
