Kathy was one of a kind. I loved her vibrant personality. I worked with closely many evenings at Lockheed Martin. She taught me all about Orders, Sales and Long Range Plan. I'm very sad to hear of her passing. Wish I could have said good bye properly. I've always thought of Kathy when I see flamingos!!

Kathy told me many many times....breast cancer is going to kill me but NOT TODAY!....and “Everybody gets something”
What a force of nature Kathy was. She was an inspiration to many other cancer patients.

My goodness, the world has lost a magnificent woman. She really was someone who used to amaze me at the ability to use both sides of her brain. She could negotiate and was sharp as a tack with her negotiations. Then turn around and do some art project and just nail it! Left and right sides were equally strong, and I was lucky enough to be able to spend time with her.
When I was back in college and couldn't see the light at the end of the tunnel, she said "Just make it through this week, then make it through next week". We walked for raising awareness on multiple items. I laid out quilt blocks for Hamner while she was in Europe so she could give him a signature quilt at his retirement, we did quilt guild together, and quilt shows.
Like someone else said, she never complained or asked "Why me" and when she got sick, she came to me personally to let me know so I wouldn't hear it from someone else. She really was so concerned about the feelings of others. She loved Jan with a passion, and he loved her back. Last time I had lunch with them, his compassion and love for her just shone through all the while his complete dedication to this wonderful woman. May God take really good care of you, Miss Kathy! I love you to the moon and back!

There are so many memories of Kathy Kelley! I have known and loved her since 1976. We met as neighbors in Nashville Tennessee and became lifelong friends instantly. We shared so many good times, but I think the best was her beautiful wedding to Jan. She was the most beautiful bride! Only Kathy & Jan would have my 4 & 5 year old children ride with them in their limo. Both my children, Beth & Bryant loved their Aunt Kathy & Uncle Jan. I was blessed that my children grew in knowing such a strong, compassionate, loving person like Kathy Kelley. Their lives and mine have been made richer by having this remarkable woman be part of our lives.
One last memory to share out of hundreds-Kathy Kelley was an amazing cook. Every Thanksgiving you wanted to be at her table, because she made the best Cornbread Stuffing. Everything was 2nd to that wonderful southern style dressing. You started looking for a container to take some home-even before the meal was served. This year Beth fixed Thanksgiving dinner for her own family for the first time and there she had Kathy Kelley’s cornbread stuffing. So Kathy Kelley’s Thanksgiving tradition continues on through my daughter.
Kathy Kelley Verrijcke will long live on in all our memories. She touched so many people. She did so much for others. So many of us loved her. And oh how we are going to miss her, until the day that brings us all back together. Be at peace my wonderful friend. I love you-we all love you. Tori

Kathy was such an inspirational leader, mentor, and friend. Her gift of TIME in teaching business, contracting, and financials will forever be cherished. My success in the defense industry is firmly rooted in the opportunity to work with Kathy. For instance, I was lucky enough to be selected and able to attend “the Kathy Verrijcke School of Contract Management.” 14 years later, the experience continues to provide a solid foundation in which many of my projects are modeled after.
Kathy had a unique ability to connect across all teams and organizations. She did not know conflict, she represented transparency and class! Don’t mistake me, Kathy could negotiate points with anyone...and would win every time and still giving the other party a reason to smile when they exited the discussion!
Kathy was the symphony conductor-directing all the sections flawlessly. When teams were out of tune, she took the time to bring them along and educate. She never left anyone behind.
Kathy’s time was freely given to all she held dear. This included not only her friendship, but her mad sewing, quilting, and crocheting skills! Wowzer, that creativity was UNBOUNDED!! I love that Kathy was able to be a part of both my daughters lives. The blankets, the sweet angel, and the beautiful Labrador statue are daily reminders of her generosity and love.
Our thoughts are with you, Jan. Kathy will be missed greatly. She will be fondly remembered and her small reminders that “Life is Good,” “This too Shall Pass,” and “Family is All” will remain alive in all that were lucky enough to cross paths with her.
*Please note I could not provide all the anecdotes and or funny stories shared w KKV in this space. She was one hell of an amazing woman. Every time I think of her, I giggle and smile because NO MATTER WHAT, she put you in your place and grounded you. Integrity, honesty, empathy, compassion...KKV was that and more.

I start to tell you about all the things my sister and I did together but words are not enough. Our oldest sister died suddenly and we never got to be as close because she had lived in California. When Kathy was first diagnosed with breast Cancer we talked about options. She got better and to celebrate we both got a small tattoo on our ankles. When it came back I got my sister to do some traveling. We had a great time. When she wanted to remodel the bathroom, we worked and had fun doing it. Plants, rocks no project was too much. We went to Europe and NYC. I tried to make sure she had fun. We spray painted at the Cadillac ranch and traveled to the largest steak dinner in America on Rt 66. So my sister lived a full life and she always said everybody gets something. I said you could step off a curb and get hit by a bus. She was hopeful and didn’t complain about her illness. Instead she was kind to everyone.

Kathy taught me how to quilt but more importantly, she gave me a love for the process. She didn't use a machine to do her quilting, she poured LOVE into every quilt she made. She freely shared her skills, books and equipment with me.
But this is true of all things about Kathy, she freely shared her life and joy with others. I'm sad to know she's gone but her being in heaven now, makes is a more exciting place to go!
