Obituary of Jon Paul Ortiz

Jon Paul Closner Ortiz unexpectedly passed away in Dallas, Texas on Christmas morning of the year 2018.  His wife Julia was at his bedside.

Jon was born in Weslaco, Texas to his mother Bertha Closner Ortiz of Mercedes, Texas and father Carlos Ryan Ortiz of Edinburg, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his sister Celina Ortiz of Houston, Texas and uncle Reymundo Ortiz of Edinburg, Texas.

He is survived by his wife: Julia Vallejo, his son: Taylor Ortiz, his parents: Carlos and Bertha Ortiz, his stepmother: Jean Ortiz, his grandmother: Maria Ryan Holmes and his brothers: Miguel Ortiz and  spouse, Yessica, and Carlos C Ortiz of Houston and by his sister-in-law: Hilaria Vallejo.   He is also survived by many cousins, some are here today, and by nieces and nephews.

Jon attended the American Schools of Panama, El Salvador and Nicaragua in consort with his father’s career as an international banker.  He returned to Texas in 1978 and graduated in 1981  from Spring  High School in Houston. He then did a tour of duty in the 182nd Airnorne División as a paratrooper.

Jon attended Pan American University in Edinburg where he attained a degree in Business Administration.  

Upon graduation, Jon began his career in hospital maintenance management with various national management companies.

He travelled to Alaska,Mexico and Central America while living in Dallas, Texas with his wife Julia.

Jon loved his family deeply, was a very giving person and will be missed forever.
