Obituary of Earl Davis

Please share a memory of Earl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Earl Arthur Davis of McKinney, Texas, age 90, passed away on November 17th, 2021, with his family at his bedside. He was born in Port Isabel, Texas to Timothy L. Davis and Aneta Rozenburg Davis. When he was a child the family moved to Jones Creek, Texas where Earl grew up. As a teenager, after spending an uncomfortable day on the water with his dad, Earl quickly determined that boat building and shrimp fishing would not be his chosen career path. After his military service in the Air Force, Earl completed four years at the University of Texas in Austin, majoring in physics. After college, he moved to Dallas and was employed with Texas Instruments where he was involved in the research and testing of transistors, and later integrated circuits. Another treasured employment was spent in San Jose, California, where he was involved in the development of night vision for the F-22 aircraft project. Later on, he was also a part of the development team that created the DLP projector chip, used in theaters throughout the world. Earl was a past member of the Association of Old Crows, a fraternal organization for those involved in the electronic defense industry. Most of his professional career was spent in the computer industry. However, during one long stretch of industry slowdown, his stage lighting company filled in his employment. He was responsible for the repairs and lighting for numerous college stages, in addition to the Dallas Music Hall, Theatre Three, and the Greer Garson Theatre. Earl was a man of faith and a member of Wilshire Baptist Church. Earl's open mindedness and quest for learning remained throughout his lifetime. He enjoyed travel, movies, musicals, and any time he could spend with his family; most especially trying to play jokes on his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ricci (Ruby C.) Davis; sons Dean Davis and his wife Meri of Plano, Texas, and Christopher Davis of Langley, British Columbia; grandchildren Aila Davis of Oak Harbor, WA and Kimberly Davis of Plano, TX; brother Norman Davis and wife Betty of Lake Jackson, Texas; and extended family member Anita Hood of Dallas, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents Tim and Aneta Davis; and brothers Tim Davis, Jr. and Michael Davis, who died in service to his country.
